There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently required to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel building that contains numerous amenities on top of the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
